Institutional Crisis Under Modi Govt as Youth Protest Election Chief

A growing institutional crisis has emerged in India under the Narendra Modi government, with young people protesting and demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

According to the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, the youth movement Kakroach Janta Party has called for nationwide protests on October 2 if the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign.

Indian social activist Sonam Wangchuk has also supported the students’ call for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation, Hindustan Times reported.

Wangchuk said that a transparent electoral process is essential for protecting the democratic system in the country.

According to international election and constitutional law experts, policies pursued by the Modi government have seriously affected the credibility and performance of public institutions.
