Ayesha Omar Raises Voice Against Sexual Violence and Victim-Blaming

Actor Ayesha Omar has voiced support for growing calls to address sexual violence against women, questioning why society often places the responsibility on women to protect themselves instead of holding men accountable for acts of violence.

Sharing a post on her Instagram story, she highlighted how women are frequently blamed for sexual violence based on their clothes, the time they are outside or their decision to leave home.

The post questioned when society would stop asking women to prevent male violence and instead start asking why men continue to commit such crimes.

Her remarks come as several cases of sexual violence continue to make headlines across Pakistan.

Most recently, police registered a case involving the alleged gang rape of an Azerbaijani woman who had travelled to Pakistan for business. According to police, three men allegedly assaulted her at a rented flat near Raiwind between Friday and Saturday night.

Police have arrested at least two of the three main suspects, while efforts are continuing to locate the third suspect.

The incident is reportedly the second case in four months involving the alleged gang rape of a foreign woman in Lahore.

Meanwhile, several other reports of sexual violence have also emerged in Lahore and other parts of Punjab in recent weeks. According to reports, six women were allegedly raped and three young girls were sexually assaulted at different locations across the province over the past few days.
