Iran Air Airbus A319 Returns to Service After In-House Engine Repairs

An Airbus A319 operated by Iran’s national carrier Iran Air (Homa) has returned to operational service following engine repairs, technical inspections and required safety tests carried out by the airline’s engineering and maintenance specialists. The aircraft, registered as EP-IEQ, was restored to service using Homa’s in-house technical capabilities after being grounded on July 29 due to a technical problem with its No. 2 engine during takeoff from Imam Khomeini International Airport for Najaf, Iraq.

Samad Sabahi, Homa’s deputy director of engineering and maintenance, said initial inspections determined that the faulty engine needed to be removed and transferred to the airline’s engine workshop for repair. He said the repair was prioritized after the available technical capacity was assessed, with specialists sourcing necessary components, conducting inspections and technical tests, and completing quality-control procedures.

Following completion of the repairs and required testing, the engine was approved by Homa’s technical specialists and transported back to Imam Khomeini International Airport for installation. Meanwhile, maintenance personnel carried out the aircraft’s A-check and other preparations needed for its return to service, with the airline seeking to minimize the aircraft’s grounding period.
