Goods Transporters Announce October 10 Strike Across Pakistan

02 October, 2026 18:26

ISLAMABAD: The All-Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has given the government an ultimatum to approve its demands and announced a countrywide transport strike from October 10, 2026.

The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by association president Nabeel Mehmood Tariq.

In a statement issued after the meeting, transporters demanded the immediate release of containers and vehicles allegedly detained during protests and sit-ins.

They also demanded compensation of between Rs20,000 and Rs35,000 for affected vehicle owners.

The transporters urged authorities to stop what they described as unnecessary fines and harassment of vehicles stopped on roads over sales tax invoices.

They also called for an immediate and significant reduction in diesel prices, citing rising operating costs across the country.

Transport leaders said federal and provincial governments had failed to implement commitments made during previous strikes and negotiations, leaving the transport industry facing a serious crisis.

They warned that if their demands were not addressed before October 10, 2026, the movement of commercial goods across the country would come to a complete halt.
