Niamh O’Brien Dies at 52 as Husband Michael Flatley Pays Tribute
A former lead performer In “Lord of the Dance” Niamh O’Brien, who is wife of Irish dance star Michael Flatley, has died at the age of 52.
Flatley announced the heartbreaking news on social media on Monday, sharing that his “heart is broken.”
Flatley wrote in a deeply personal tribute, “My gorgeous bride of twenty years has gone to the Lord in Heaven.”
O’Brien was a notable Irish dancer who did the lead role of Saoirse in Lord of the Dance. She became a significant part of the stage creation and was extensively acknowledged for her ability as a nentertainer.
Flatley paying tribute to his wife, O’Brien as the most loving mother, wife and person he had ever known. He added that the family’s lives would never be the same without her.
The couple shared one son, Michael St. James, who was born in 2007.
A representative for Flatley told Irish broadcaster RTÉ that O’Brien died peacefully at Beacon Hospital in Dublin after an illness. The spokesperson defined her death as unexpected and said both the Flatley and O’Brien families were shattered by the loss.
The families have ask for privacy as they mourn and come to positions with the heartbreaking loss. They also expressed their appreciation to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who cared for O’Brien during the past few weeks.
They further thanked everyone who had offered their kindness and support following the news of her death.
No further information about O’Brien’s illness has been made public.
Flatley’s social media message, shared on the day her death was announced, served as an emotional farewell to his wife of 20 years and a talented dancer who played a memorable role in one of Ireland’s most internationally recognised stage productions.
