US Imposes New Iran Sanctions, Targets 17 Vessels in Oil Trade Network

US Warns Foreign Banks: Stop Transactions With Iran or Risk Sanctions
WASHINGTON: The United States has announced fresh sanctions targeting 17 vessels and networks involved in transporting Iranian crude oil, petroleum products and petrochemicals, in a move aimed at restricting Tehran’s revenue from energy exports.
The US Treasury Department said the measures were designed to disrupt Iran’s maritime trading networks and limit income that Washington says supports the country’s military activities, missile programme and cyber operations.
The vessels were added to the sanctions list as part of a broader US effort to target what it describes as Iran’s shadow fleet, which is used to transport oil and other petroleum products through international shipping networks.
According to the Treasury Department, the latest measures are intended to restrict Iran’s ability to generate revenue from oil exports and undermine networks facilitating those shipments.
The sanctions come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran over the conflict, maritime security and Iran’s nuclear programme.
The US government has maintained economic and maritime pressure on Iran while diplomatic contacts between the two sides continue.
The new measures could create additional compliance risks for shipping companies, traders and businesses dealing with vessels or entities designated under the sanctions regime.
The US Treasury’s announcement reflects Washington’s continued reliance on economic restrictions as part of its strategy towards Iran.
