Shehbaz Sharif Calls Key Cabinet Meeting on KP Security Situation
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called a key meeting of the federal cabinet for Sunday at 9:30am to discuss the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with major constitutional and administrative decisions expected, according to government sources.
The meeting, chaired by the prime minister, will be attended by federal ministers and focus on the province’s worsening law and order situation and increasing incidents of terrorism.
Sources said the cabinet would review security challenges, recent terrorist attacks and administrative matters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Detailed reports from police and intelligence agencies regarding the situation in the province are also expected to be presented to the prime minister and cabinet members.
The agenda will include measures to restore peace and stability and improve governance in the province, sources added.
According to government sources, important constitutional and administrative decisions concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to be considered during the meeting.
The development follows a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a day earlier, during which they discussed the country’s overall political and security situation.
Sources claimed that the two leaders had reached an understanding on considering the possible imposition of governor’s rule or a state of emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Meanwhile, separate sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate have also been scheduled for October 13, according to sources.
