Islamabad Police Arrest Suspect in Alleged Scholarship Fraud Case

Police have arrested a man accused of defrauding Laiba Ijaz, a gold medallist at the International Islamic University Islamabad, of Rs9.3 million by falsely promising to arrange a US visa and scholarship.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations confirmed that the suspect, Noman, had been arrested and was being questioned by police.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has also registered a case against Noman and his alleged accomplice, Fatima Sarwar, in connection with the fraud.

According to the first information report (FIR), the suspects allegedly deceived Laiba Ijaz and her family using fake scholarship documents and university admission offer letters. They reportedly collected Rs9.3 million by claiming they could secure her a US visa and scholarship.

The FIR states that Rs2.9 million was transferred through Laiba Ijaz’s bank account, while the remaining amount was paid in cash.

The document further states that Ijaz died by suicide following the alleged financial fraud and the psychological distress associated with it. The case remains under investigation.
