Shehbaz Sharif Condemns Riyadh Airport Attack, Reaffirms Support for Saudi Arabia

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday stated solid condemnation of the informed Houthi strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, which allegedly left 12 people dead and more than 300 injured.

In his message on X, PM of Pakistan condemned attacks on civilians and needed groundwork, saying was intolerable and stood a severe danger to peace and constancy in the region.

He defined such attacks as a clear violation of international law and called for an immediate end to the violence.

Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support for Saudi Arabia, stressing that Islamabad remained committed to protecting the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. He also highlighted the longstanding brotherly relations between the two countries.

The Saudi civil aviation officials stated, the airport attack on Saturday killed at least 12 people and injured 309 others, with several victims reported to be in critical condition.

The victims involved four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshi citizens and one citizen each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The Saudi-led alliance blamed Yemen’s Houthi group for the attack and called it as a severe impairment of international law. A diplomatic source said the airport was struck by a missile.

After the incident, authorities briefly postponed airport operations while officials assessed the damage and checked the security of the services. The attack also initiated key disturbances to air travel, with hundreds of flights cancelled or late.

Flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported that the incident disrupted air traffic, forcing the cancellation of 155 arriving flights and 161 departing flights, while another 222 flights were delayed. Many incoming planes were diverted, mostly to Jeddah.

Medical teams across Riyadh were also called in to treat the injured, as hospitals prepared to handle the emergency. Witnesses described scenes of panic, with passengers running for safety after hearing an explosion and seeing injured people near the airport gates.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about regional security and the safety of civilian infrastructure. Pakistan has reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia as tensions continue over attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthis.
