Retired police sergeant shoots deputy chief wife and their daughter in wealthy, coastal enclave home

A trailblazing former San Francisco deputy police chief is dead, alongside her daughter in an apparent murder-suicide carried out by her husband, a retired police sergeant, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities have identified the deceased as Ann Mannix, 65, a former SWAT commander, her 24-year-old daughter, Katie, and her husband, 68-year-old retired San Francisco Police Sgt. Kevin Mannix.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a suspected double-murder suicide involving three individuals,” Miguel Almaguer, the Marin County Sheriff’s public information officer, said in a statement. “The suspected shooter is male.”

Speaking later at a news briefing, he specifically identified Kevin Mannix as the shooter and said he could not discuss any evidence found in the home.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at the family’s home in Mill Valley around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The caller was said to have safely escaped from the residence but was identified only as another resident of the home. Deputies entered and found the three family members dead inside, according to authorities.
