Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Imposed in Full Compliance with Constitution: Azam Nazeer Tarar

Tarar said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed 2,911 terrorism incidents between 2021 and 2024, expressing concern over the increasing number of attacks. He stressed that extraordinary circumstances required extraordinary measures and called for a coordinated strategy between the federal and provincial governments to combat terrorism. According to the law minister, several factors had contributed to the rise in militant violence, and the deteriorating security situation in the province had increasingly become a threat to national security.

Criticising Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Tarar accused him of prioritising politics over security concerns and overlooking the sacrifices of security personnel and civilians. He questioned whether meeting the families of martyrs and spending time with them was not a chief minister’s responsibility. He further alleged that instead of focusing on the province’s security challenges, the provincial leadership had announced a march towards Islamabad, describing PTI’s approach as an attempt to take over the federal capital. Tarar reiterated that the state was more important than politics and said the release of an arrested individual was a matter for the courts to decide.
