Yemen Claims Interception of Saudi Eurofighter Typhoon Over Sa’ada

Yemen’s Armed Forces have claimed that their air defence units intercepted a Saudi Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet over the northwestern province of Sa’ada amid escalating hostilities between the two sides. Yemeni military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said early Thursday that the aircraft was struck by a locally manufactured surface-to-air missile while conducting what he described as hostile operations.

According to Saree, the fighter jet had taken off from King Fahd Air Base in Taif, Saudi Arabia, and sustained a direct hit, forcing it to leave Yemeni airspace. The claim has not been independently verified. The reported interception comes amid an intensification of Saudi air strikes and cross-border attacks, raising further concerns about the widening conflict.

Late Wednesday, Saudi warplanes reportedly struck a residential building in the al-Qatay area of al-Marawi’ah district in Yemen’s western coastal province of Hudaydah. No immediate information was available regarding possible casualties or the extent of the damage. The latest developments underscore the growing tensions between the two sides as military operations continue across Yemen.
