Israeli Settlers Brutally Assault Washington Post Journalist Heidi Levine in Occupied West Bank

The Washington Post has condemned an attack on its photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank and called for a full investigation after violence against Palestinian olive harvesters in the village of Abu Falah.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday morning when a group of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers gathering olives. Levine was wearing press identification while documenting the incident but was also targeted.

Reuters reported that Levine was knocked to the ground and kicked repeatedly. Her camera and mobile phone were also taken during the assault.

The Washington Post said Levine received medical assistance and was safe following the incident. The newspaper called for a comprehensive investigation and accountability for those responsible for attacking a journalist carrying out professional duties.

Later accounts indicated that approximately 80 masked settlers were involved in the violence. Olive trees were reportedly set on fire and stones were thrown during the attack on the Palestinian harvesters.

The Israeli military confirmed that it was reviewing the incident, while police opened an investigation. No further details about arrests or possible charges were provided in the information available.

The attack took place during the olive harvest, an important source of income for Palestinian families across the West Bank. Palestinian farmers have repeatedly reported harassment and violence during the harvest season, when access to agricultural land is especially important.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about the safety of journalists covering violence in the occupied territory, as well as the protection of Palestinian farmers working on their land.

The full circumstances of the attack and the outcome of the investigations remain to be established.
