Pope Leo XIV to Leave Hospital After Lung Cancer Surgery

The Pope underwent surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung after doctors identified a nodule suspected of being cancerous. Medical examinations confirmed that the nodule was adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer. His personal physician and surgeon said the decision to discharge him followed an assessment of his clinical condition, blood test results and a chest X-ray conducted on Saturday morning.
Despite his recent surgery, Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to deliver the traditional noon blessing on Sunday from a window overlooking St. Peter’s Square, according to the Vatican. His planned appearance will mark a return to his public duties following the medical procedure, although his recovery and subsequent activities will depend on his health condition.
