Bilawal Bhutto Pays Tribute to Karsaz Martyrs, Calls for Unity Against Terrorism

18 October, 2026 17:20

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid tribute to the victims of the Karsaz tragedy, describing their sacrifices as a shining chapter in the country’s national history. He said the tragic incident remained a painful memory for the nation and recalled that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had decided to return to Pakistan despite serious security threats. Bilawal said the PPP had always confronted terrorism with courage, adding that people from all walks of life had sacrificed their lives in the fight against terrorism and that Pakistan’s armed forces continued to make sacrifices for national security.

Bilawal criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, alleging that its leadership was unwilling to confront terrorism and defend the province. Referring to Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, he claimed that the PPP would take responsibility for confronting terrorists if the provincial leadership failed to do so. He vowed that the fight against terrorism would continue until the perpetrators were eliminated, stressing that no one would be allowed to remove Pakistan’s national flag from any part of the country or create instability. He also described protest-based politics as a major obstacle to national development and said the PPP had supported a government decision in the interest of combating terrorism.

On political and constitutional matters, Bilawal said compromise was an essential part of politics, arguing that political engagement was impossible without it. He proposed forming a parliamentary committee to discuss electoral reforms and said the emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could be lifted if the opposition supported the federal government’s efforts against terrorism. He also reiterated the PPP’s position that new provinces could be established through constitutional and legal procedures, with provincial assembly approval and consensus among stakeholders. Bilawal questioned why new provinces were not being created in areas where agreement already existed and said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was familiar with the PPP’s position on new provinces and administrative units.
