NADRA Allows Pakistanis to Avail This Service Only Once in a Lifetime: What to Know

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has explained how citizens can change their names on Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs).

According to NADRA, applicants must submit an application along with a Computerised Birth Registration Certificate issued by the relevant Union Council, Municipal Committee or Cantonment Board. The certificate must include a verified Computerised Registration Management System (CRMS) number showing the updated name.

Applicants seeking to change their religion must also provide a certificate issued by a Dar-ul-Ifta, NADRA said.

Only Once in a Lifetime

NADRA has clarified that citizens can generally change their names on their CNICs only once in their lifetime. However, an exception applies to women who want to change their names after marriage.

Applicants do not need to bring photocopies of their documents. Instead, they must provide the relevant document numbers issued by NADRA or the Union Council.

Step-by-Step CNIC Name Change Process

NADRA has outlined the following steps for citizens who want to change their names on their identity cards:

1. Obtain a token: Visit the nearest relevant NADRA registration centre and get a token.
2. Biometric verification: Complete the required biometric verification.
3. Data entry: Provide the correct personal information, have fingerprints recorded and get a photograph taken.
4. Application approval: The application will be processed for approval. NADRA has stated that attestation of the application form is not required for CNIC modifications.
5. Fee payment: Once the application is approved, the applicant will receive a notification on the mobile number provided. The fee can then be paid at a NADRA office or online.

CNIC Modification Fees and Delivery Times

NADRA has shared the following fees and delivery times for CNIC modification services:

• Normal: Rs750, with delivery within 30 days.
• Urgent: Rs1,500, with delivery within 15 days.
• Executive: Rs2,500, with delivery within seven days.

After the selected processing period, applicants can collect their modified CNICs from the same NADRA registration centre.
