UN mentions locust hit Pakistan needs $372m additional funding.

The world body’s Deputy Spokesman Farhan Aziz Haq said this, while responding to a question at the regular briefing.

United Nations said Pakistan needs 372 million dollars over the coming three years.

Pakistan needs this in additional funding to survey, control and recover from the locust damage.

He said the locust attack has significantly affected Pakistan and likely to cause further damage at the end of summer.

He said the UN Food and Agriculture Organization is providing technical advice and support to Pakistani government for locust surveillance and control.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan also had discussed locust operation in meeting with Punjab CM and Governor during visit to Lahore.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan Army and Ministry for National Food Security are conducting spray against locust.

Besides, Ministries of Information and National Food Security as well as ISPR have launched awareness campaign.

It aims to sensitize the farmers about the issue. He said provincial governments are also working round the clock to control the menace.

Minister for National Food Security Syed Fakhar Imam had earlier said Pakistan operation to control locust continued in full swing.

He said this, while giving a media briefing regarding locust situation in Rawalpindi.
