Punjab Govt Exempts New Vehicles From Emission Testing

07 June, 2025 13:10

In a recent development, the Punjab government has announced a major relaxation in vehicle emission testing requirements. According to an official statement by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department, this step has been taken on the special directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

“Vehicles up to three years old are exempted from Emission Testing,” stated the department. This means that owners of new cars or vehicles purchased within the last three years are no longer required to undergo the emission certification process.

To facilitate the public, the department also confirmed that Emission Testing Booths will reopen from Wednesday, June 11, after Eidul Azha holidays. These booths will function at designated locations in Lahore between 9 AM and 5 PM.

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has also significantly increased the number of testing booths across Lahore—from 8 to 60 active stations—to ensure ease of access and reduced waiting times.

Following successful testing, a Green Sticker will be affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen. This sticker serves as proof that the vehicle is environmentally compliant and poses no threat to air quality.

This initiative is part of Punjab’s broader effort to promote eco-friendly practices while also easing the burden on responsible vehicle owners.
