Motorcycles in Pakistan may become more expensive starting July 2025, if the proposed federal budget for 2025-26 is approved by Parliament.
Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the new budget with a total size of Rs17,573 billion, mainly focused on boosting economic growth. To manage expenses and reduce the budget deficit, the government is planning several steps to increase revenue.
According to local news reports, motorcycle prices are expected to go up in the next fiscal year. This may affect many Pakistanis who rely on motorcycles for daily transportation.
In Pakistan, Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha are the leading motorcycle brands. Some of the most popular models include the Honda CD70, CG125, and Suzuki GS150. If prices rise, it will put an extra burden on the buyers, especially those from low and middle-income groups.
Carbon Levy on Fuel Products
The government has also proposed a new carbon levy on fuel products. This means petrol and diesel prices could also go up.
-
A Rs2.5 per liter carbon levy is expected in the next financial year, which could generate around Rs48 billion.
-
In the 2026-27 fiscal year, this levy on petrol and diesel will double to Rs5 per liter, aiming to raise Rs96 billion.
-
On furnace oil, a carbon levy of Rs2 per liter (Rs2,665 per metric ton) will be imposed. This may increase to Rs5 per liter in the following year.
To implement these levies, the government will make changes to the Petroleum Products (Petroleum Levy) Ordinance 1961. Officials say this will not only help raise funds but also promote environmental awareness by reducing pollution from fuel use.
If all these proposals go ahead, everyday items like motorcycles and petrol may become more expensive in Pakistan.
