Suzuki Alto prices rise while Land Cruiser get big discount in Pakistan

The auto industry in Pakistan is still struggling as car sales hit record lows in the last few years. In the latest Budget 2025, the government introduced new taxes that increased prices of small, affordable cars like the Suzuki Alto, while surprisingly reducing duties on imported luxury SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser.

This decision has shocked many people because it seems to favor the rich over middle-class families. The Suzuki Alto, which has long been a popular choice for first-time buyers and middle-income households, is now even harder to afford.

Suzuki Alto Prices in 2025

Pak Suzuki recently announced new prices for the Alto, showing a sharp increase of up to Rs. 1.8 lakh. The top model now costs Rs. 3.32 million on-road.

The government raised the General Sales Tax (GST) on small cars (850cc or less) from 12.5% to 18% and added a 1% New Economic Value (NEV) levy. This has hit the country’s cheapest car segment hard.

Land Cruiser and Luxury SUV Prices Drop

While small cars got more expensive, imported luxury SUVs became cheaper due to reduced import duties. Customs Duty, Regulatory Duty, and Additional Customs Duty were all cut, bringing big price drops for high-end vehicles.

Public Reaction

These changes could widen the gap between rich and poor in Pakistan’s auto market. Middle-class buyers are losing affordable options, while wealthy buyers benefit from lower SUV prices.

The government claims the reduced duties on imports are meant to formalize trade and stop smuggling and misuse of amnesty schemes. But many question if this approach is fair to ordinary citizens.
