Buying a Used Car? Check This Online First

23 July, 2025 13:08

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued an important advisory for individuals planning to buy or sell used vehicles in the province. The announcement aims to prevent legal issues and financial losses for both buyers and sellers.

Buying Used Cars Is Popular in Pakistan

Buying used cars is a popular choice in Pakistan due to affordability and a wide range of options. It offers lower depreciation compared to new cars, and sellers can easily convert old vehicles into cash. When handled with proper documentation and ownership transfer, it’s a safe and effective way to upgrade or buy a vehicle.

PSCA’s Important Reminder to Buyers and Sellers

The PSCA has urged all prospective buyers to “verify e-challans before purchasing any vehicle”. This step is essential to avoid unexpected fines and legal troubles after a purchase.

Additionally, sellers are reminded to “ensure timely transfer of ownership after selling one”, which helps prevent being wrongly held responsible for future traffic violations.

How to Check E-Challans

Buyers can easily check for outstanding traffic fines linked to a vehicle by visiting: https://echallan.psca.gop.pk/
By entering the vehicle’s registration number, users can view pending challans.

Authorities emphasize that “failure to clear e-challans can result in legal action”.

To streamline the process, the Punjab government recommends using the ePay Punjab mobile app, which allows secure online payments of e-challans.
