FBR plans to restrict unregistered commercial vehicles using motorways

FBR plans to restrict unregistered commercial vehicles using motorways
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is preparing to launch a nationwide digital cargo tracking and vehicle registration system aimed at improving tax collection and monitoring goods transport across Pakistan.
According to sources, the new system is expected to generate around Rs200 billion in additional revenue by tightening control over the transport sector.
Under the proposed plan, only FBR-registered commercial vehicles will be allowed to transport goods from factories and industrial units. Unregistered trucks may be restricted from using motorways, highways, and other major routes.
The system will also introduce digital tags for commercial vehicles, allowing authorities to track the movement of cargo in real time. Transport operators who fail to register their vehicles could face penalties and restrictions.
Officials said the initiative is designed to reduce smuggling, under-invoicing, and tax evasion in the goods transport sector.
The digital tracking system is expected to be implemented from the next fiscal year as part of broader reforms to strengthen supply chain monitoring and improve tax compliance across the country.
