SBP responds to rumors about cancellation of fresh Eid currency notes

06 March, 2026 19:25

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has rejected reports circulating on social media claiming that new currency notes will not be issued for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.

The clarification came after a letter shared widely online suggested that the central bank had decided not to release new currency notes for Eid this year. The letter also claimed that the usual SMS service used for getting fresh notes would not be available and advised people to use digital payment methods instead.

However, SBP officials said the notice is fake and the bank has not issued any such statement about new currency notes for Eid-ul-Fitr. They explained that any official announcement regarding currency notes is always made through a formal press release.

Officials added that the central bank only shares verified information through its official communication channels. Messages shared through unofficial letters, screenshots, or SMS should not be considered authentic unless they come directly from SBP’s official platforms.

The clarification was issued after confusion spread online, with many people sharing the letter and questioning whether fresh currency notes would be available for Eid. The central bank urged the public to ignore unverified information and rely only on official statements.
