Government Announces Summer Vacations for schools and colleges

The Punjab government has officially declared summer vacations for all public and private schools and colleges across the province. According to reports by national media, the holidays will begin on June 1, 2025, and continue until August 9, 2025.

Khalid Nazir Wattoo, Secretary of School Education, confirmed the news and added that the schedule might be adjusted if temperatures rise even further. “If the heat reaches an unusual level, the vacations could begin a week earlier as well. The health and safety of students and staff is our top priority,” he said.

This year’s decision comes amid growing concerns over climate change and prolonged heatwaves. The education department has already made all the necessary preparations to ensure a smooth vacation period for students and school administrations.

In addition, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued safety guidelines to be followed before the start of holidays. These include:

• Ensuring classrooms are well-ventilated

• Checking that fans and cooling equipment are working properly

• Setting up first aid stations in schools

• Training staff to manage heat-related emergencies

These steps show the government’s serious approach toward student and teacher welfare, especially during extreme weather conditions.

With experts warning of the rising health and economic impacts of global warming, such proactive planning by authorities is seen as essential to protect the younger population from heat-related risks.
