Punjab to start summer vacations from May 28 – check full schedule

The Punjab government has decided to start summer vacations earlier this year because of the rising temperatures and heatwave warnings.

Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, announced that schools will begin their holidays from May 28, 2025. He also said school hours are being shortened to protect students from the heat.

New Vacation Dates in Punjab

Summer break in Punjab will now run from May 28 to August 9, 2025. Although the final notification is still pending, schools have been informed of the change.

Updated School Timings

Until the holidays begin, schools will now open at 7:30 am and close at 11:30 am to help students avoid the hottest part of the day.

Heatwave Alert

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a heatwave alert for May 20 to May 24, warning that temperatures may rise sharply in major cities and flat regions of Punjab.

As a result, several departments—including school education, health, and emergency services—have been asked to stay on alert.

Summer Holidays in Other Provinces

• Balochistan: In hot areas, holidays started on May 17 and will end on July 31. Schools will reopen on August 1 (Friday).

• Sindh: All government and private schools will observe summer break from June 1 to July 31, and authorities have denied any changes to this schedule despite the heat.

Climate Concerns

Experts continue to raise concerns about global warming. Pakistan is considered one of the countries most at risk from climate change. With weather patterns shifting and natural disasters becoming more frequent, departments are taking early steps to ensure safety—especially for children.
