12 June, 2025 13:19

Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani, has officially approved the launch of the Summer Internship Program 2025 as part of the Senate’s ongoing Youth Outreach Initiative. The program is designed to involve university students in the legislative and administrative functions of Parliament, particularly during the ongoing budget session.

Program Details

  • Start Date: June 16, 2025

  • Duration: 8 weeks

  • Participants: 21 university students

  • Institutions Represented:

    • Foundation for Advancement of Science and Technology (FAST)

    • National University of Modern Languages (NUML)

    • National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)

The Senate Summer Internship Program 2025 aims to enhance students’ understanding of the Constitution, legislative processes, and the workings of the Senate Secretariat—especially those studying social sciences and technology.

Orientation

Before the internship officially begins, students will attend a two-day orientation at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS). The orientation will cover:

  • The Constitution of Pakistan

  • Parliamentary procedures

  • Role and operations of Senate Standing Committees

Previous Internship Batches

This initiative builds on earlier successful programs:

  • June–August 2022: 20 students from Quaid-i-Azam University, National Defence University, Bahria University, and NUST

  • July–August 2024: 18 students from seven Islamabad-based schools

Broader Vision and Expansion

Since assuming office in March 2024, Chairman Gillani has also introduced an unpaid six-week internship for students from universities across Pakistan. Over 426 students have benefited from this program so far.

As part of its next phase, the Senate Secretariat will expand internship opportunities to A and O Level students in Islamabad—ensuring more inclusive youth participation in the country’s democratic and legislative affairs.
