ACCA Qualification redesign – Focus on AI, Ethics & Sustainability

25 June, 2025 16:46

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has officially announced a big change to its famous ACCA Qualification. These updates will be rolled out by mid-2027 and are designed to help future accountants succeed in a fast-changing world.

ACCA said the goal is to prepare accountants not just for finance, but also to play a key role in technology, sustainability, and ethics. The new design focuses on building important skills that employers now expect from modern professionals.

Why ACCA Is Making These Changes

According to ACCA Chief Executive Helen Brand, the world of accountancy is changing. She explained that accountants today must do more than just manage money. They are now expected to help companies grow responsibly, care about the environment, and understand new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Helen Brand said, “Accountants are drivers of sustainable business, promoters of social value, and enablers of new technologies. The changes we’re making will prepare the next generation for this exciting future.”

What’s New in the ACCA Qualification?

The redesigned ACCA Qualification will include several updates to improve learning and increase employability:

  • Employability Modules at each level of the qualification
These will provide students with real-world simulations, helping them learn how to solve problems in digital technology, ethics, business management, and sustainability.

  • Integrated learning experience
Students will have access to personalized study plans using AI-powered tools and support from a digital mentor.

  • A new optional exam in Data Science
This will be introduced at the Strategic Professional level for students interested in working with big data and analytics.

  • New certificates and designations
As students progress through each level, they will receive recognitions that can be shown to employers as proof of their growing skills.

Smooth Transition for Current Students

ACCA promises that existing students will not be negatively affected by these changes. Any progress they’ve made will still count, and they won’t have to pay extra fees.

Students will also still have the option to earn a BSc (Hons) in Professional Accountancy from the University of London while studying for their ACCA exams.

Focus on Inclusion and Opportunity

ACCA is also updating its Foundations entry route, which helps people with no formal qualifications to start their journey in accountancy. This keeps the ACCA open to people from all backgrounds, especially those looking to build a better future.

Designed with Input from Employers and Gen Z

This redesign was not made in isolation. ACCA held consultations with members, businesses, and young professionals, especially from Gen Z. The aim was to make sure the new qualification meets real-life needs and prepares students for future job markets.
