Punjab Government May Extend School Holidays Until August 31 Due to Rain
The Punjab government is considering an extension of school summer holidays until August 31, 2025, due to ongoing extreme heat and heavy monsoon rains.
At present, schools across Punjab are scheduled to reopen on August 15. But the School Education Department is now reviewing a proposal to prolong the holidays for safety reasons.
According to sources, the proposal is under serious review, and a final decision is expected very soon. Until now, no official notification has been issued.
Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that discussions are in progress. He said that the government is prioritizing the health and safety of students and staff.
Schools in Punjab began their summer break on May 28, just before the intense heatwave started. Now, with humid weather and intermittent monsoon rains continuing, many parents and teachers have shown concern over reopening.
Weather Still Dangerous for School Activities
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that hot and humid conditions will continue across most areas. However, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir.
This unstable weather can lead to health issues, traffic problems, and waterlogging—especially risky for school-going children.
The final decision about the holiday extension is likely to be announced in the coming days through official government channels.
