Punjab govt denies reports of extended schools winter vacations

09 January, 2026 14:23

A notification circulating on social media claims that the Punjab government has extended winter vacations in all public and private schools due to severe weather conditions.

According to this document, holidays have been extended from January 10 to January 17, 2026, and schools will reopen on January 19. It also mentions that district education authorities have been instructed to ensure strict compliance.

However, so far, there has been no official announcement from the Punjab government confirming any extension in winter vacations. No such notification is available on the official platforms of the School Education Department or the Punjab government to support this claim.

In Punjab, all education-related decisions are shared through official notifications and public statements by the provincial education authorities. Recently, Rana Sikandar Hayat, who oversees the School Education Department, addressed rumors about extended winter holidays and clearly rejected them.

Earlier this week, the education minister shared a public statement in which he clarified that schools and colleges will reopen according to the existing schedule. He also urged people not to believe unverified information. He stated: “School & College Holidays Will NOT Be Extended. Please avoid fake news.”

As of now, there is no change in the winter vacation schedule. Parents, students, and school administrations are advised to rely only on official government sources for correct and updated information.
