‘Yes, I did the attack’, admits Saif Ali Khan’s attacker

Shariful Islam Shahzad, a Bangladeshi citizen arrested for the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has allegedly confessed to the crime.

According to Indian media reports, police sources say that 30-year-old Muhammad Shariful Islam Shehzad said in a confessional statement, “Yes, I did the attack.”

During the 70-hour manhunt following the attack on Saif Ali Khan, significant progress has been made in the case.

The accused was arrested from a labour camp located in a forest area about 35 km from Saif Ali Khan’s house in Mumbai’s Bandra area. The arrest came after a 7-hour operation based on information provided by a labour contractor.

A senior police officer told the Indian media that during the investigation, the accused has admitted his crime.

It may be recalled that Shariful Islam Shahzad was produced in a Mumbai court yesterday, where his lawyer told the court that the allegations against the accused are baseless and nothing objectionable was found with his client.

The lawyer claimed that the case is getting more attention due to the involvement of a celebrity and that his client is being made a scapegoat.

Later, speaking to the media, the lawyer reiterated the same position that there is no evidence against Shariful Islam.

It should be noted that the court has given the accused in the custody of the city police for 5 days.
