Tamil Actor Joseph Vijay’s Party Scores Big in First State Election

Joseph Vijay former Tamil actor and a superstar belong southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has turned to politician. He amazed everyone as his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), accomplished a strong victory in its first election in the state polls.

India media reported that former actor’s party established in February 2024, contested the state elections where 118 seats were required for a majority out of 234. His party won 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

In this election, TVK has emerged as a major political force in Tamil Nadu, causing a major rift in the traditional political system.

In previous elections, the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK have been strong here, which have managed to win 59 and 47 seats respectively this time.

Joseph Vijay got successes in both Perambur and Tiruchi electorates, his party held 34.92% of the votes in its first election, which is an unexpected performance.

Notably, Vijay left the showbiz, when his career on its peak, as his political journey began well before this, so in 2024 he officially joins politics.

In 2009, e reshaped his fan clubs into a widely recognized charitable organization. In 2011, its first demonstration of political influence came through its backing of the AIADMK alliance. Gradually, his film events started to carry a political message, where he spoke to young audiences about issues like unemployment, exam stress, and corruption, and in 2019, he also criticized the Modi government’s Citizenship Amendment Act.
