‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Renewed for Season 2 With a Darker Story

HBO has publicly announced another sequel of It: Welcome to Derry likely fans will experience more frightening tales from the illusory town and its immoral entity, Pennywise.

It: Welcome to Derry premiered on HBO Max on October 26, 2025, work for as a prologue to the It movies that came out in 2017 and 2019. Depiction from Stephen King’s novel the show tells the story of the events that took place before the arrival of the It films, and its encounters with the shape-shifting Pennywise.

Season 1 was largely set in 1962, the second season will travel back to 1935 and explore Derry’s difficult period during the Great Depression.

The upcoming second season is expected to focus on the Bradley Gang massacre. The plot story will more focus on the gang who travel to Derry for ammunition but encounter something truly terrifying. The original It novel by Stephen King featured the Bradley Gang massacre as one of the dark events in Derry’s history.

Fans should steady themselves for an obscurer set in the new chapter, which will discover the hardships of the Great Depression era. Poverty, joblessness and social tensions are probable to shape the story of the upcoming season.

Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs helped develop the series. Brad Caleb Kane, who co-showran the first season with Fuchs, will return as the sole showrunner for Season 2.

Bill Skarsgård who starred as Pennywise in the first season, has not been officially confirmed to return for the new season. Information about the other cast is still confidential. The first season featured Jovan Adepo, Taylour Paige, Chris Chalk and several other actors alongside Skarsgård.
