Liverpool missed the opportunity to close the gap to Manchester City’s leaders after falling 1-0 to Leicester City in the Premier League on Tuesday. (Reuters) – Wasteful Liverpool failed to meet Manchester City in the Premier League’s 1-0 win over Leicester City.
Liverpool had a lot of chances, including a Mohamed Salah penalty, but failed to score in the Premier League for the first time in 29 games, after Ademola Lookman scored twice for Leicester to win.
After a spectacular 4-1 win at Watford, Tottenham Hotspur remained to a dreadful day.
Norwich City lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace, another loss to bottom club Norwich City.
Liverpool beat Leicester 6-3 on Boxing Day putting the champions in the standings on Tuesday and they took six points at the top.
Liverpool looked a lot fresher from the start than an injury-hit Leicester in the King Power Stadium after their own Boxing Day game against Leeds United was cancelled due to rising COVID-19 cases at the Yorkshire club.
Salah won a penalty, but Kasper Schmeichel failed to find the net for the first time in 16 Premier League attempts.
The chances had to be established, but The title-chasers’ abuse proved costly as Lookman gave it away, with Leicester in the 59th minute moving up to ninth in the standings.
“It was just a wonderful game, and we were not enough” according to Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp. “It was a wonderful game.”
“We still had enough chances, because what we did with the balls was completely wrong. We played a good game and it was well deserved,”
Two minutes later, Benrahma put the visitors forward, drilling home after Mikhail Antonio was cut from the left and slid the ball into the Algerian’s path.
An impressive Bowen effort was dismissed by VAR, but Hammer doubled his advantage via a Mark Noble penalty and substitute Nikola Vlasic completed the route, slotting home after more good work from Bowen.
Frenchman Odsonne douard scored one and made two for Palace as he tackled Dean Smith’s Norwich with ease at Selhurst Park.
The former Celtic forward opened the scoring with a sixth-minute penalty and then set up Jean-Philippe Mateta for the second.
Shortly before the break it was 3–0 when douard danced through the crowd into the box, before the ball fell to Jeffrey Schlup, who smashed the house.
