Rockstar Games May Be Testing GTA VI on Nintendo Switch 2, New Leaks Claim

Rockstar Games fans are buzzing with rumours that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) could be tested for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. While nothing is confirmed by Rockstar, insiders say the company is exploring whether the game can run on the next-gen handheld console.

GTA VI Release Delay

On November 6, 2025, Rockstar announced that GTA VI would not release in May 2026 as planned. The new release date is November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The delay aims to give developers more time to polish the game. Following the announcement, Take-Two Interactive’s stock briefly dropped.

Leaks Hint at Switch 2 Testing

Industry insiders NashWeedle and NateTheHate revealed that Rockstar is testing GTA VI on Switch 2 hardware. NashWeedle confirmed that a port is being worked on internally but said it will likely not launch alongside the main game.

NateTheHate added that testing doesn’t mean a final release is guaranteed. Rockstar is only checking if the game could run well on the Switch 2 platform.

The Switch 2 is reportedly much more powerful than the original Switch. It can handle 4K resolution and 60 FPS in docked mode. It also supports Nvidia DLSS upscaling, which helps demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 run smoothly. These upgrades make a GTA VI port technically possible, although Rockstar has not confirmed it.

Currently, the only confirmed Rockstar project for Switch 2 is a next-gen port of Red Dead Redemption, developed with Double Eleven and Cast Iron Games. Whether GTA VI will follow the same path is unknown.

Fans should remain cautious. Leaks show Rockstar is testing the game, but no official announcement has been made. GTA VI’s November 2026 release is still months away, and details about a Switch 2 version are still speculative.
