26 November, 2023 18:33

Blood is composed of red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC) and blood platelets. These cells and cell fragments are suspended in blood plasma.

A person may be able to increase their platelet count naturally by consuming certain foods, vitamins, and supplements.

It’s crucial to work with your doctor to identify the root cause of poor platelet counts if a blood test reveals them.

If you have a low RBC, WBC and/or platelet count, there are natural ways to help increase your platelet count.

Iron-rich food varieties:

Iron is a crucial component of heme, a co-factor required for building hemoglobin which facilitates the oxygen binding in the red blood cells. For an iron- rich diet add Poultry, Shellfish, Lean meat, Organ meats, Fortified foods, Dark chocolate, Nuts and seeds, Beans, spinach and lentils.

Vitamins A, C and E:

Vitamins provide additional support for the absorption of iron, which in turn helps increase red blood cell buildup. The intergration with vitamin A & C is helpful by consuming Oats, Fish, Poultry, Broccoli, Bananas, Lean meat, Leafy greens, Dairy products, Fortified breakfast cereals, berries, oranges, lemons, grapefruits, Papaya, Carrots, Apricots, Citrus fruits, Strawberries, almonds, pine nuts, avocado, bell pepper and kiwis.

Folates (Folic- Acid):

Folate is fundamental for the creation of platelets, including platelets. Food sources like salad greens, lentils, asparagus, beef liver, oranges, maize, peanuts, Sunflower seeds, Bananas, and braced grains are great wellsprings of folate.

Zinc , Vitamin K:

Zinc is necessary for proper immune system function and can help increase platelet count. Zinc-rich foods include oysters, beef, crab, lobster, nuts, and seeds.Pomegranate is a fruit rich in antioxidants that can help increase platelet count. While Blueberries, avocado, papaya enhances vitamin k.

Eating more than the recommended amounts of key nutrients will not increase rbc, wbc and/or platelets count higher than optimal levels.

The body will usually get rid of the excess nutrients it does not need or cannot use. However, there are risks of getting too much of certain nutrients, whether through diet or supplements.
