OIC FMs meeting condemn Israel and demand halt attacks on Palestinians immediately.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has adopted a unanimous resolution demanding immediate halt of Israel’s hostilities against Palestinians causing serious implications for security of the region and beyond.

They adopted the resolution during a virtual open-ended extraordinary meeting of the OIC Executive Committee of the Foreign Ministers.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi represented Pakistan in the meeting.

However, Iranian and Turkish Foreign Ministers also made clear that normalization of ties with Israel emboldened Israel.

Meanwhile, Turkey has recommended an “international protection mechanism” for Palestine’s civilians.

According to TRT, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said so in aforesaid emergency meeting of Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

It lamented that Israel continued its aggression in besieged Gaza on the seventh consecutive day where death toll jumped to 181, including 52 children.

“These efforts should also include physical protection through forming an international protection force with military and financial contributions of willing countries,” he said.

Turkey and Iran oppose normalization of ties with Israel

He cited such a mechanism remains in line with a 2018 UN General Assembly resolution.

Furthermore, he noted it the time to show unity and determination for Palestine, while Turkey stays ready to take any necessary step.

Turkish FM stated that efforts to normalize ties with Israel have emboldened it.

Moreover, he emphasized that we should stand for justice and humanity.

There should be no other considerations. This is time to show our unity and decisiveness. The ummah (Muslim community) expects our leadership and courage, and Turkey is ready to take whatever action is necessary.”

Cavusoglu told the OIC that Israel should be held accountable for war crimes and that the International Criminal Court could play a role.

Meanwhile, Iranian FM Javad Zarif made clear that Israel understand the language of resistance.

Therefore, he called for support to Palestinian resistance instead of normalization of ties with Israel.
