SSGC Ramadan gas update: Load shedding worsens despite govt action

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is under pressure after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took notice of widespread complaints regarding gas shortages during Sehri and Iftar. Despite reassurances from SSGC, residents in Karachi and other cities continue to struggle with limited gas supply.

Emergency Meetings and Actions

Following the Prime Minister’s orders, emergency meetings were held at ministerial levels, and SSGC management worked overnight to resolve the issue. Officials were dispatched to different areas to ensure the implementation of directives, but many neighborhoods still reported severe gas shortages.

To improve the situation, SSGC implemented several immediate measures, including:

• Increasing gas pressure by 10%.
• Opening gas distribution centers earlier before Sehri and Iftar.
• Arranging an additional 20 MMCFD gas supply.
• Setting up control rooms for real-time monitoring.
• Prioritizing complaints related to low gas pressure.

However, these steps have not been enough to resolve the crisis, leaving many families struggling to cook meals during Ramadan.

Ramadan Gas Load Shedding Schedule

SSGC announced that gas would be available from 3:00 AM to 9:00 AM for Sehri and from 3:30 PM to 10:00 PM for Iftar. However, residents of Karachi and Lahore report that the schedule remains unreliable, with frequent disruptions.

The growing frustration among citizens highlights the urgency of the situation. If SSGC fails to stabilize the supply, the public’s discontent will only increase. For now, consumers are left hoping that authorities will take effective steps to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply throughout Ramadan.
