New Gwadar airport handled over 1,500 passengers: report

09 March, 2025 17:05

Gwadar’s New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) has officially commenced flight operations, connecting the port city to key domestic and international destinations.

According to available data, NGIA handled 42 flights between January 20 and February 26, 2025, with a total of 1,537 passengers.

The airport currently operates flights three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. A breakdown of the routes shows that 14 flights operated between Gwadar and Karachi, transporting 1,035 passengers, while seven flights connected Gwadar with Muscat, accommodating 502 passengers.

The operational status of NGIA has been verified by investigative journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan, countering claims that the project is non-functional.

The airport is seen as a crucial step in boosting regional connectivity and supporting economic activities under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Authorities believe that the new airport will enhance trade, tourism, and investment in the region.

As operations expand, officials expect an increase in flight frequency and passenger traffic, further integrating Gwadar into national and international travel networks.
