Defense Assault Case: Salman Farooqi Assaulted by Lawyers, Public Outside Karachi Court

Karachi — Salman Farooqi, accused in the DHA torture case, was physically assaulted by lawyers and public outside the city court on Tuesday.

According to a private TV channel, after Gizri police presented Farooqi in court and secured a two-day physical remand, an angry mob attacked him as police were escorting him out of the courtroom. The accused was slapped and kicked by the group.

Earlier in the day, the court granted the two-day physical remand for Salman Farooqi and another accused in connection with the assault of a young motorcyclist in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. Both accused were presented before the city court by Gizri police.

Farooqi’s lawyer, Naeem Qureshi, submitted a bail application, stating that the sections related to issuing threats are bailable offenses. However, the investigation officer (IO) requested physical remand for further interrogation.

The court approved the IO’s request and directed that the accused be presented with a progress report at the next hearing.

The incident involved businessman Salman Farooqi assaulting a young motorcyclist in DHA Karachi in the presence of the motorcyclist’s sister. The footage of the assault went viral on social media, sparking public outrage and calls for legal action.
