Around 7 million animals expected to be sacrificed in Pakistan this eid
The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has shared a detailed report ahead of Eid-ul-Adha 2025, estimating that over 6.97 million animals will be sacrificed across the country. The total value of their hides is expected to cross Rs. 6.35 billion.
According to PTA, the expected number of sacrificial animals includes:
3 million cows
1,680 buffaloes
3.465 million goats
404,250 sheep
103,635 camels
The report also highlights a rise in hide prices this year. For example:
Cowhide price has gone up by Rs. 75, now at Rs. 1,775
Buffalo hide has increased by Rs. 80 to Rs. 1,680
Goat hide is now Rs. 446 (up by Rs. 21)
Sheep/lamb hide is Rs. 47 (up by Rs. 2)
Camel hide has jumped by Rs. 28 to Rs. 578
The PTA says this increase is due to higher global demand for leather and revival of the local leather industry. They expect this year’s Eid to bring even more commercial activity than last year, which is a positive sign for Pakistan’s leather exports.
Eid-ul-Adha is one of the biggest events for livestock and hide collection in the country. Experts believe the rising trend could give a strong boost to the economy and the leather sector.
The PTA also emphasized the need for proper hide handling, storage, and timely collection to prevent wastage and ensure good quality for tanneries.
