Sindh Govt Bans Four-Seater Rickshaws in Karachi

The Sindh government has announced a ban on four-seater rickshaws in Karachi. It has also decided to introduce strict fines for traffic violations like wrong-way driving and driving without a license.

These decisions were made in a meeting on Friday, led by Sindh Minister for Interior and Law, Zia Lanjar. Top officials from the police, transport, and law departments also attended.

New Motor Vehicle Rules in Sindh

Several key decisions were taken in the meeting:

• Four-seater rickshaws are now completely banned in Karachi.

• All commercial and non-commercial vehicles must pass fitness tests.

• Fitness tests will be done by third-party inspection companies.

• Rickshaw drivers must now get a roadworthiness permit.

Fines for Traffic Rule Violations

Big fines will be imposed for breaking traffic rules:

New Rules for Vehicle Safety

• Freight vehicles must have at least five cameras installed.

• Water tankers and dumpers must have trackers and sensors.

• Sale of black-tinted windows, fancy lights, and sirens is banned—both online and in stores.

Traffic Fines & Vehicle Records

• E-challans (electronic fines) will be sent to the home addresses of vehicle owners.

• The traffic, excise, and transport departments will now share information.

• Vehicles with unpaid fines cannot be transferred or sold.

• A Traffic Magistrate will be appointed to handle traffic law cases.
