Fresh monsoon rains have triggered flooding across Pakistan, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) the hardest hit as Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Parachinar, and Peshawar faced severe inundation, causing urban paralysis and casualties, including a couple killed in Nowshera.

Punjab also reported heavy rains in Multan, Jhang, Khushab, Chakwal, Bhakkar, and Miani, while Balochistan remained cloudy with more rainfall forecast in several districts.

Thunderstorms were reported in Azad Kashmir’s Dhirkot and Poonch. Rivers and reservoirs are under strain, with medium flood levels at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa barrages, while Tarbela Dam is nearly full at 97% capacity and Mangla at 71%.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains until August 19 with further wet spells expected after August 22, as NDMA cautioned that this year’s monsoon is 50–60% stronger than last year.
