NEPRA hints at another cut in electricity prices
Good news for electricity consumers in Pakistan! Power prices are expected to fall once again as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reviews a petition from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).
According to the request, electricity rates may be reduced by Rs1.69 per unit for consumers across the country, including K-Electric users. NEPRA has completed the hearing and will now examine the data before issuing an official notification. If approved, this price cut will provide relief of about Rs23 billion in September bills.
This comes shortly after NEPRA had already approved a reduction of Rs1.89 per unit in the quarterly adjustment for April to June 2025. That decision, which applies from August to October 2025, is expected to bring total relief of Rs55.874 billion for electricity users nationwide.
However, NEPRA made it clear that both of these reductions will not apply to lifeline and prepaid consumers.
