LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday acquitted former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi in another case linked to the May 9 violence, while handing down 10-year jail terms to other accused.
The verdict was announced by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gul after the completion of a jail trial in the case of a government vehicle set on fire near Jinnah House.
According to the court ruling, the jail trial involved 39 accused, including PTI leaders Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Khadija Shah, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The court sentenced Dr Yasmin Rashid and Ejaz Chaudhry to 10 years in prison each, while Qureshi was acquitted, marking another relief for the senior PTI leader.
The case was part of a series of trials against PTI leaders and workers following the violent protests of May 9, which saw attacks on military and government installations.
