Pakistan Navy Discovers Offshore Natural Gas Reserves with Chinese Collaboration

Significant natural gas reserves have been discovered beneath Pakistan’s seabed, according to national media reports released on Tuesday.

The announcement came from Retired Rear Admiral Fawad Ameen Baig during an interview with a private news channel.

Baig emphasized that Pakistan’s “blue economy” holds vast, untapped potential in marine and mineral resources. He credited the Pakistan Navy for playing a crucial role in maritime exploration and revealed that a recent survey—conducted in collaboration with China—confirmed the presence of substantial offshore gas deposits.

Highlighting the importance of international cooperation, Baig underscored the need to attract global investors with both capital and advanced technology to exploit these resources effectively. Without such investment, he warned, these national assets could remain unutilized.

He also commented on the broader economic landscape, suggesting that Pakistan’s development has often been obstructed by external forces engaging in fifth-generation warfare aimed at discouraging investment. Despite these challenges, Baig expressed optimism that the newly formed Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), working in coordination with the country’s military and political leadership, can overcome these hurdles.

He concluded by stating that this unified approach could help Pakistan move toward becoming a stronger and self-sufficient economy.
