Punjab Govt urges Federal Govt to Ban TLP

16 October, 2025 11:20

The Punjab government has decided to officially recommend a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), citing serious threats to law and order in the province. According to government sources, a detailed proposal will soon be forwarded to the federal government, urging immediate action against the religious-political group.

Officials argue that TLP’s ongoing activities involve incitement, violence, and public disorder, making it difficult for the state to maintain peace. The provincial authorities believe that banning the group is necessary to prevent further instability.

Key Measures Proposed

As part of the recommendation, Punjab has suggested strict steps to dismantle TLP’s operational structure:

  • Placement of Leaders on Fourth Schedule under the Anti-Terrorism Act

  • Full monitoring of movement and communications of district and central leadership

  • Seizure of assets, including offices, properties, and other holdings, to be transferred to the Auqaf Department

  • Ban on promotional activities, including removal of posters, banners, wall chalking, and advertisements

  • Closure of all social media accounts linked to TLP

  • Freezing bank accounts of individuals associated with the group

Officials stress that no group will be allowed to incite hatred or violence in the name of religion, especially against state institutions. The move aims to ensure lasting peace and stability in Punjab.

It is important to note that TLP was previously banned in April 2021 during Imran Khan’s government, following nationwide violent protests against the French ambassador. The ban was later lifted after political negotiations.

Now, with rising concerns over public safety, Punjab is once again pushing for strong action at the federal level.
