Pak-Afghan likely to reopen border within 24 to 48 hours
The Pakistan-Afghanistan border is expected to reopen within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to diplomatic sources.
Officials from both countries have reportedly agreed to reopen the border, which has been closed due to recent hostilities. Pakistani officials said that if no new dispute arises, the Torkham crossing will soon be reopened to restore trade and travel between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Tensions between the two neighboring countries rose sharply after Taliban and allied militants launched coordinated attacks on Pakistani border posts during the night of October 11–12, 2025. The Pakistan Army responded with a strong counteroffensive, killing many attackers and taking control of several enemy positions.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Afghan Taliban and Indian-sponsored Fitna al-Khawarij carried out an unprovoked assault along the border.
The statement said this “cowardly action,” which included cross-border firing and small raids, was meant to destabilize the region and support terrorism under FAK’s plans.
Pakistan’s armed forces, acting in self-defence, repelled the attacks across multiple sectors and inflicted heavy losses on Taliban fighters and allied militants.
The military also conducted precision strikes and targeted operations against Taliban camps, posts, and training centers inside Afghan territory. These strikes targeted networks linked to Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH), and ISKP/Daesh.
The army added that all operations were carried out carefully to avoid civilian harm and minimize collateral damage.
