Karachi manhole incident: Three-year-old boy's body recovered
The alleged negligence of the administration in Quaid-e-Azam has shocked another family. A 3-year-old child fell into an open manhole in front of a well-known department store near Gulshan-e-Iqbal Nipa Bridge and went missing. His body was found several hours later.
Earlier last night, a three-year-old boy fell into an uncovered manhole and has been missing, triggering hours of unrest, road closures, and clashes in the area.
Due to the terrible incident in the area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal of Karachi has left the whole family in deep shock, as the disastrous event occurred near a well-known departmental store, Nipa Bridge, when the toddler was allegedly covered only by a sheet of cardboard.
The witnesses regarding the event stated that the young boy had barely exited the store with his parents when he let go of the hand of his father and rushed ahead.
The cardboard covering the manhole could not withstand his weight and collapsed instantly, causing the kid to fall directly into the sewer system. As rescuers came on the scene, the boy’s mother cried out in despair for her son.
Rescue 1122 crews and Edhi’s water rescue unit immediately began search raids inside the manhole, but the child had yet to be located after many hours.
Citizens in the area expressed outrage, adding that the open manhole was the result of officials’ tragic negligence.
However, the Deputy Mayor of Karachi, Salman Abdullah Murad, has taken notice of the occurrence and demanded an investigation. He stated that action will be taken against individuals guilty of leaving the manhole uncovered, and he reassured the public that disregard for citizens’ safety would be unacceptable.
The sources further confirmed that the three-year-old Ibrahim was his parents’ only child. On the other side, Nabeel’s father remarked that the family had come from Shah Faisal Colony to shop and had parked their motorcycle directly close to the manhole.
The father further explained watching his son fall before his eyes as the most traumatic experience of his life, while rescue teams were still searching inside.
Furthermore, the search raids remain underway as the family and the community wait anxiously for any news about the missing child.
