Goods Transporters Strike Halts Supply Chain Across Pakistan

11 December, 2025 10:17

A nationwide strike by goods transporters has brought Pakistan’s supply chain to a standstill. The protest has blocked the movement of food, industrial raw materials, and other essential goods across the country.

Thousands of trucks and containers are currently stuck at major terminals, slowing business operations and affecting industries that rely on daily supplies.

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Faheem Ur Rehman Saigol expressed deep concern over the ongoing strike. He said the halt in transportation threatens the continuity of economic activities.

He added that the transport sector is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, and when movement stops, the effects directly hit food supply, industrial production, exports, and business operations.

LCCI Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Vice President Khurram Lodhi said that sudden regulations and heavy fines are creating serious instability for transporters and businesses.

They said policies must be made after proper consultation with all stakeholders. Ignoring the issues faced by the industry, they warned, leads to crisis situations like the current strike.

The LCCI leadership has offered to mediate between the government and transport associations to help end the deadlock.

They called for a complete review of the Traffic Ordinance, stressing that future decisions must be taken in coordination with the transport sector.

The business community fears that continued disruption may delay export shipments, shut down production lines, and even increase inflation.

The Chamber said both the government and the transport alliance must form an immediate joint strategy to restore normal economic activity.

They expressed hope that constructive dialogue would help reopen the supply chain across Pakistan.

Private transport operators across Punjab, including Lahore, also observed a wheel-jam strike on Monday, protesting against the Traffic Ordinance 2025.
