No Plan to Shift Imran Khan From Adiala Jail, Say Authorities

11 December, 2025 10:08

Prison authorities in Rawalpindi have rejected reports claiming that PTI founder Imran Khan may be moved out of Adiala jail. Officials said on Wednesday that there is “no plan under consideration” and that all such claims are based on speculation.

Sources inside Adiala told Geo News that the former prime minister is still in the same facility. They added that Imran Khan is receiving full security, medical care, and regular meals according to jail rules. A five-member PIMS medical team also checked him recently and declared him stable.

Authorities Deny Any Transfer Plan

Officials stressed that the idea of shifting Imran Khan “has no merit.” They said no administrative move or decision has been made regarding his relocation. The clarification came after earlier reports suggested the federal government was reviewing options to move him.

Government representatives claimed that PTI was trying to create unrest through protests. They accused the party of following an agenda that could “destabilise the country.”

During a press conference, PM’s Coordinator for KP Ikhtiar Wali said political tensions had reached a dangerous level. Without naming Imran Khan, he said the government was reviewing proposals to shift a “prisoner” from Adiala.

Political Accusations and Rising Tension

Wali also made strong allegations against KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, accusing him and his family of links with drug smugglers. He criticised the CM’s performance and said it was “below zero.”

These remarks came after Imran Khan’s sisters held a protest near Adiala jail. They were stopped from meeting their brother, which led to a sit-in. Police used water cannons to break up the demonstration. Several PTI workers were detained after minor clashes at the Factory checkpoint.

Meetings with Imran Khan have remained a major dispute between PTI and the government. A meeting was last allowed around a week ago when his sister Uzma Khan visited him.

Meanwhile, tensions continued outside the jail as PTI supporters clashed with police again. Imran Khan has been in Adiala jail for more than two years.

Ban on Meetings and Government Clarification

Last month, KP CM Sohail Afridi held a 16-hour protest outside the jail. Earlier, Imran Khan’s sisters were detained briefly during another protest. After these incidents, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that a blanket ban on meetings with Imran had been enforced.

This came shortly after ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry called Imran Khan a “mentally ill person” and a threat to national security.

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazl Chaudhry also confirmed that no decision had been made to move Imran Khan from Adiala. He added that thousands of other prisoners were affected by the repeated PTI protests.

He also questioned PTI’s political strategy, saying the party was harming the state by attacking key institutions.

Dialogue and Political Polarisation

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said the government was open to dialogue. However, he revealed that the opposition said it wanted talks only with Field Marshal Asim Munir, the CDS & COAS.

He said political tensions had reached a point “from where return may no longer be possible.”

PTI Reaction

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan condemned the use of water cannons on party workers. He warned that attempts to “minus” the party would not succeed.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser also warned the government against installing governor’s rule in KP. He said PTI wants peace and supports strong action against terrorism, but would speak up “as far as the law allows.”
